David Tronzo possesses a compelling and original guitar sound which stems from his use of the "processed slide- guitar," slide guitar, and dobro in eclectic musical settings. He plays his highly-individual slide-guitar stylings in jazz, blues, rock, funk, and avant garde settings often producing exciting and original sounds. Musician Magazine has ranked David Tronzo, who often goes by Tronzo, as one of the top 100 guitarists of all time. He has released several sessions as a leader, is a member of Knitting Factory super-group Spanish Fly, and he continues to be in demand as a session player.

Tronzo has devoted most of his life to music since he first became mesmerized by it as a youthful rock-influenced teenager in the summer of 1972. Tronzo has toured extensively in Europe and the United States, gracing the stages of the most renowned international music festivals in the world. He has teamed up with acclaimed musicians in various duos and projects under his name (Tronzo Quartet/Tronzo Project), as well as others. He is linked with some of the most famous names in musicianship (e.g., David Bowie guitarist Reeves Gabrels and Michael Blake). He has also recorded and toured with Wayne Horvitz and The President, John Hiatt, John Lurie and The Lounge Lizards, John Cale, Marshall Crenshaw, Foday Muso Suso, Hassan Hakmoun, Gavin Friday, The Jazz Passengers, Mike Manieri, and David Sanborn.
He has toured Europe regularly as a leader since 1994 and toured with Spanish Fly (1997; US tours 1996 and 97) And with John Lurie & the Lounge Lizards (1991) and John Haitt USA/Canada 1990. He's been a featured soloist with the Ray Anderson Group, Montreal Festival 1997, Hasidic New Wave and Sex Mob. He performed weekly in the "NYC Guitar Virtuoso Series" at Kenny's Castaways 1986-1987. Tronzo is touring and recording in a solo format as well as with The Tronzo Trio, The Tronzo/Herbert Duo with bassist Peter Herbert, Session 1 and 2 with Tom Hall, and a new project V-16 with drummer Jerry Granelli, bassist Anthony Cox and guitarist Christian Kogel.
Tronzo has been teaching private lessons for over 25 years, and has taught hundreds of students. He is also a clinician and performs workshops and master classes wherever he tours. Beginning in January 2003 he is a member of the faculty at Berklee College of Music in Boston, as an Associate Professor of Slide Guitar.
He is currently residing with his wife Kelly and their cat, Fred in Newmarket, New Hampshire, where he can be near and care for his mother.
