Creative Music Workshop, July 5-14, 2012

Creative Music Workshop is a program where the ensemble is the classroom and improvisation is more than a style; it is a path for learning. 

The Creative Music Workshop summer intensive gathers renowned musicians and educators from across North America and is lead by internationally acclaimed drummer, Jerry Granelli.  Taking  place during the TD Halifax Jazz Festival, the CMW offers music students of all genres a chance to perform at the festival tent and a pass to watch all of the festival's world class artists, and it exposes other arts practioners (dancers, writers, etc.) to new ways of approaching the creative process. Learn to be better, stretch to be more creative and have the best summer of your life!

This year at the Creative Music Workshop:

Core Program $450 (early bird price $395!)
July 5-14

Musicians of any genre (not just jazz!) and skill level, aged 15* or older are provided with an opportunity to take their playing to the next level.  This stream includes dedicated instruction, additional rehearsal time and the opportunity to compose for and play in the TD Halifax Jazz Festival as well as the Creative Process program.

Times: July 5-6, 5:00pm-9:00pm | July 7-14, 9:00am-4:00pm | July 14, performance day.

This program is best suited for musicians from any background who want plenty of practical experiences in their education and who are interested in dedicated instruction from leading international musicians and educators.  The curriculum developed by Jerry Granelli is not available anywhere else in Canada and is regarded as an essential complement to other teachings.

Bonus! Students of the CMW Core Program receive an All Events Pass for the TD Halifax Jazz Festival, a value of approximately $250.

Creative Process $149
July 5-12

Creative minds of all disciplines learn the fundamental principles of the Creative Music Workshop through a wide ranges of exercises, including listening, improvising, playing in ensembles and movement.  Artists of all sorts find this approach to be life changing due to the unique perspectives it offers.

Times: July 5-6, 5:00pm-9:00pm | July 7-12, 9:00am-12:00pm

This program is suited for any person wanting to be more creative in her/his work.  The sessions pass on knowledge not only about what it means to be a musician, dancer, etc., but what it means to be a creative thinker.

Bonus! Students of the CMW Creative Process receive a WOW! Pass for the festival tent at the TD Halifax Jazz Festival, a value of $195.
