The David Jones Award

Overview

The “David Jones Award” is presented by the Halifax Jazz Festival to recognize the crucial role volunteers play in the life and success of the festival. The award is named in honour of our long-standing Event Manager David Jones, who retired in 2019, and whose contributions to the organization are difficult to put into words. For many years David devoted countless hours to developing and maintaining standards of excellence in music presentation – all while promoting teamwork, mentorship, and the good cheer we associate with the festival today. This award strives to highlight similar contributions made by others – a festival “MVP” whose volunteer efforts we could not succeed without.

Criteria

Nominees for the David Jones Award must be a former or current HJF volunteer - and must have served at least 5 Festival’s in a volunteer role (does not need to be consecutive years).

Submissions will be evaluated and selected by the Jazz East Rising Board of Directors Nomination Committee, and the winner will be announced during the 2023 Halifax Jazz Festival Volunteer Appreciation Party and posted on the Halifax Jazz Festival website. Nominations will open in late spring.
